Process and materials

The delicate look and lightweight feel are achieved by using very thin slabs of porcelain. Each piece is carefully slab built or slip casted using porcelain, glazed in transparent inside, sanded smooth outside and fired twice to 1260°.

Gold is applied and fixed with a third firing in electric kiln.

In each object, something is deliberately left to chance: a crooked edge or a movement of the clay as it deforms under high temperature firing characterize the uniqueness of each piece.

The clay I use is a high-quality European porcelain and it has high translucency. Its colour after firing tends to a warm white.

All material used are food-safe.
